Training and development are generally linked with the terms employee development, workforce engagement, or talent management. Effective training programs lead to lower turnover, increased profits, higher productivity, competitive advantage in the marketplace, greater innovation, world-class customer service, or a reduction in workplace conflict. Much rhetoric has been devoted to “our employees are our greatest asset,” but only in those organizations that provide employee training and development on a continuous basis is this a realistic and true statement.
